ABOUT

Incorporated as a Limited Liability Company in 2013, "Range Consulting Group" was begun in 2008 as a "side-business," assisting customers with the very unique considerations that come with indoor shooting facilities. RCG is now your go-to source for up-to-date information, as well as advice and help on designing an indoor shooting range.  Our primary Consultant, John Gritschke, is in his 33rd year in the industry, and in that time, has seen just about every way possible not to build a shooting range. He has extensive knowledge of the systems, equipment, and current design theory for these highly-specialized facilities where considerations such as ballistic containment, ricochet prevention, ventilation/airflow quality, and acoustics are critical to user safety and health, and where his experience with specialized target systems, firing line and bullet trap equipment, and operations and maintenance best practices--along with his extensive list of contacts and industry relationships will ensure your range project is done right the first time, on time, on budget, and meets the needs of your customers!

Consultant

John began his career in firearms training facilities in 1987, working for Detroit Armor Corporation as a Field Technician/Installer. In 1990, the company was bought by Caswell International Corporation and merged into their operation. In 1994, Caswell formed Range Management Services, where John worked not only in the field, but also eventually ran the sales, gaining extensive knowledge assisting customers with range operations from an environmental, health, and worker-safety regulatory standpoint. In 1998, John assumed the role of Sales Manager for the Western US for Caswell. In 2003, the company was bought by Meggitt, PLC, and operated under the Meggitt Defense Systems division. In 2006, John left MDS Caswell to direct the Shooting Range Systems division of Troy Acoustics Corporation, where he gained extensive knowledge and understanding of the unique nature of firing range acoustics.  In 2008, John joined Metals Treatment Technologies (MT2), where he served as a Site Project Manager on large-scale lead shot recovery projects for outdoor shotgun ranges. In 2009, John joined Laser Shot, Inc., where today, in addition to his 'side-work" consulting under RCG, he directs Laser Shot's Shooting Range Technologies (SRT) Live-Fire Division. His work at Laser Shot has broadened his knowledge and experience not just in live-fire, but has now added firearms simulation expertise to his offerings.  John has also consulted over the past 10 years with the US Navy and US Air Force range COE's on the development of the new Department of Defense Small Arms Ranges standard; UFC 4-179-02.

John lives in Crystal Lake, Illinois, has two grown children and a new grandchild, and has lived much of his life in suburban Chicago. He is a huge Cubs, Bears and Blackhawks fan, and enjoys flying small aircraft, offshore fishing and of course, shooting in his spare time.
